Leaving school

 A-fu
told us why he promote reading
|
A-fu
had a poverty-stricken childhood. His parents had to do odd jobs to support
their lives. A-fu remembered that “we didn’t have cotton-padded quilt in
winter, so we had to have straws to keep warm. It was really chilling during
the winter.” So A-fu had to give up his education in elementary school and was
barely literate.

Do something to make it up
|
A-fu
wants every child have a good reading experience. He remembered that when he
started the bookstore three years ago that “each month I have to offset the
loss of the bookstore with my own salary. But I never regret to do so because
the happiness and content of children make it all worthwhile.” A-fu particularly
mentioned one day there were about a hundred children attended the book club,
each was deeply absorbed in the stories. Their eagerness sustains A-fu to go
on.

 A-fu
believes reading could change fate
|
Where dreams fly
|
A-fu
believed that there were five deciding factors in one’s life, namely: destiny,
fate, fengshui, education and doing good deeds. While the former three were
beyond our control, the later two could change our life course. A-fu said with
a smile that “now what I need to do is to develop the book club and make
reading popular in Luchou.” He continued after a pause:” I have a dream that
one day I could open a children’s castle bookstore with an area of 1500 square
meters in Luchou and introduce children’s books around the world into here. So
that people around the world would know the castle bookstore on visiting Taipei. Even if I can’t
make the dream come into true, I will pass it to my offspring.”

Promoting reading
|
We
were deeply moved by A-fu’s confidence and persistence and determined to do our
best to promote reading in school and the community. We organized Reading
Meeting and Talking about Reading activities to share the happiness of reading
with others.
