Our market

Markets of other places

I used to see mom take food basket to buy our favorite food, but where on earth did mom go for food?  I didn't know.  So when I asked mom for her feeling of buying food in supermarket or in traditional market, mom just said to me "What feeling could that be! Buying food is just buying food, it’s all the same ". Therefore, in order to know what the difference is between "buying food in supermarket" and "buying food in traditional market", we have a mission today, that is "GO! GO! Go to buy food!"

First stop: supermarket

Firstly, we went to Wellcome Supermarket as our first station, we bought a bundle of Chinese cabbage, two corn cobs, half cabbage, a big piece of bean curd, a pack of soya milk film, two packs of hand pulled noodles, one pack of orange, two packs of long-rocked mushroom, totally cost us NT$347.

In the supermarket, following the clear marks above our heads, we could always find what we wanted. I think this is really convenient for modern people who are busy in lives and running against time!

Though this trip in supermarket, we found the inner space of market was arranged in good order, and the store was very clean, but the salesmen' attitude were rather cold, the price was exactly that indicated on the price mark and you could not bargain with the vendor, and we could not distinguish fresh green vegetables, what a pity!  (for example, the soya milk film we bought seemed to be deposited for a long time, it had a strange smell. The corn kernels looked flat as if they contained little water)

We conclude that buying food in supermarket has the following merits and demerits:

  A. Bright and clean space

B. Goods are placed and sorted in order for easy search and              time saving.

C. Adjacent to residential block, convenient shopping.

D. Most of goods are in attractive packing, but cannot be              directly distinguished for freshness.

(for example: vegetable and fruit, meat).

E. The sort of goods is abundant, but not as diversified as that              in traditional market.

F. Prices are fixed and cannot be bargained.

Goods are displayed in such a good order! That provides convenient shopping!

No smelling or touching, whether it is fresh?

One whole box shall be bought at one time, you cannot choose how many you want! It's bothersome!

Shopping in supermarket, choose all you want and pay for them at one time!

  Second stop: traditional market

The second station, we went to the traditional market for shopping. The vendor of vegetable was very kind to us, he priced a cabbage at only NT$20 for us (he said it could not be sold by half), a bundle of Chinese cabbage for NT$10, a big piece of bean curd for NT$10 (original price was NT$15), two packs of long-rocked mushroom for NT$20 (original price was NT$30), additionally the vendor gave us a piece of ginseng Chinese yam, it's so great (dear vendor! you must be Bodhisattva)!

And then, we went to the South-North Sundry Goods and bought one pack of soya milk film at NT$20 (it smelt fresh), and went to the noodles shop and bought one and a half kilograms of hand pulled noodles at NT$50 (so fragrant flour favor, they were made just in the morning), and we bought one and a half kilograms of orange at NT$30 (it exceeded one and a half kilograms).

This shopping experience in traditional market let us feel very pleasant, we found many goods were cheaper than those in the supermarket!  Furthermore, the vendors were very kind that we had more rooms to bargain with them, and they would give us extra food or fruit. And the customers could choose their favorite goods as their wish, and they could see the freshness of goods at any moment. But the environment of market is comparatively mussy, and it smells bad (five kinds of flavor mixed together), water flows everywhere so it's liable to slip, these are what we feel not good.

After bought these foods, we began to cut, wash and boil them at once, and we were ready to enjoy the food hugely! After enjoyed the delicious food, we conformably thought the goods in market were cheap as well as tasty under comparison.

Through the mission today, we found the goods in traditional market had good looking and they were fresh as well as nice, the goods there received on the day without being deposited, so they would be tasty.  And the vendors treated customers kindly, they even gave you extra goods actively when you were buying their goods, this is the advantage of traditional market as well as one point worth being generalized.

We conclude that buying food in traditional market has following merits and demerits:

A. Sort of goods is diversified, almost all commodities can be found here.
B. Adjacent to residential block, convenient shopping.
C. Good interaction of person to person, shop keepers are always kind and nice, you'll find shopping interest here.
D. The market contains many shops selling same kind of goods, you can make a choice here and compare the prices, and you always can buy some goods at a bit lower price than those in supermarket.
E. Prices of goods are not fixed, there will be rooms for bargaining.
F. The freshness of goods can be distinguished directly, so that you'll get comparatively fresh vegetables, fruit and meat.
G. The environment is comparatively mussy to supermarket, five kinds of flavor mixed together here.
H. All stalls and shops are dispersed everywhere in the market, you have to spend some time on searching what you want.
I. Footway and vehicle's way are not separated in some areas that makes the shopping environment comparatively hazardous.

One corner piled up with sundries somewhere nearby Jhunshan Market!

So here is a beautiful spot hidden, it's so lively!

Grandma vendor of peanut says, "You can have a taste, it's very soft!"

Grandma vendor of pork serves so well, she tells us how to cook the pork well.
